Since then, SAT has modified its timed essay to reflect a fifty-minute period and the nature of the prompt has changed over to one where students read a passage and analyze it. Still help with the outline for Lesson 17, but have the kids work more independently for Lesson 18 by using the lesson instructions to the teacher.

By Lesson 18, the kids are working entirely on their own. Take a poll of your class to find out whether your students will be sitting for the essay exams for either the SAT or ACT, and instead give them opportunities to practice that style of essay while still teaching the TRIAC.

Or, invest in the High School Essay Intensive and take your students on a little side journey for a few weeks going over one or more of the timed essay approaches. Here is what I did. I polled the class to see who would be sitting for which exams. All but one of my students were planning on not writing the essay at all.

Instead they are all planning on either not going to college or going to college by getting an Associate's degree first and then transferring. Since that is the makeup of my class, I decided to expand the timed essay to thirty minutes, as I think that's more likely what a student would have for time in a class of course this could vary.

I then worked with the students on the first outline and sent them home to do the timed essay.

I told the students that if they had accommodations, they could use them just as if they were sitting for a formal exam at their college or national exam.
